My Honest Review Of The HygieneLab Men’s Non-Toxic Skincare & Hair Care
With the help of my husband, we reviewed six products from The HygieneLab and we’re sharing exactly what we think. The HygieneLab is a skincare and hair care line that caters to men’s grooming needs and contains no toxic ingredients. Is The HygieneLab truly clean and does it actually work? Read our review to find out if this brand lives up to the hype.

There aren’t many non-toxic skincare and hair care brands that cater to men, so I was intrigued when I came across The HygieneLab. They are EWG verified and only use pure essential oils for scent. Although being EWG verified is not the be all and end all, it’s a great place to start when looking for clean products. I also carefully comb through all of the ingredients myself. The Hygiene Lab was very helpful when I asked about ingredients and shared testing information when I asked for it.
About The HygieneLab
The HygieneLab was founded in 2023 by Kramer LaPlante, who set out to create high-performance grooming essentials made with clean, non-toxic ingredients that work better than the conventional options. Kramer noticed that even the so-called “premium” brands still used questionable ingredients, so he set out to make products that meet the highest standards of safety and performance.

Are All The HygieneLab Products Non-Toxic?
Since there is no clear definition for the term “non-toxic”, my answer may differ from other reviews. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (like phthalates) are one group of chemicals that I lump in the toxic category, but other harmful chemicals like talc, formaldehyde releasers and ethoxylated ingredients are also chemicals I consider to be toxic.
The HygieneLab Styling Gel contains Ceteareth-20, which is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative. This is an ethoxylated ingredient and can be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, which is carcinogenic. This is the one product I do not recommend.
Their shampoo, face wash and body wash all contain cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine. During the manufacturing process of cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine, two impurities, aminoamide (AA) and 3-dimethylaminopropylamine (DMAPA), can form and result in irritation. I have contacted customer service at The HygieneLab and they test for these contaminants. They shared numbers with me and the levels are exceedingly small. I have very sensitive skin and I’m happy to report that none of the products that contained cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine resulted in irritation for me.
Why Is Switching To Men’s Non-Toxic Grooming Products So Important?
The decline in male fertility has been increasingly linked to exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which are commonly found in plastics, personal care products, pesticides, and even food packaging. These chemicals, such as phthalates, bisphenol A (BPA), and parabens, mimic or interfere with the body’s natural hormones. Studies have shown that EDC exposure can lead to reduced sperm count, poor sperm quality, and lower testosterone levels, all of which contribute to male infertility.
Additionally, these chemicals can disrupt the development of the male reproductive system during critical periods, such as fetal development and puberty, leading to long-term reproductive issues. As the presence of EDCs in everyday products continues to rise, experts warn that male fertility rates are expected to decline further unless individuals take proactive steps to reduce their exposure to these harmful toxins.

Now that we know how important it is for men to avoid endocrine disrupting chemicals, let’s dive into our review of The HygieneLab products. Below you’ll find the six products that we reviewed. Although The HygieneLab provided the face wash, face moisturizer, deodorant and body lotion, all thoughts are my own (and Jeremy’s) and I’m truly impressed by this brand. I applaud this company for creating effective skincare and hair care products that don’t contain harmful chemicals. I also love the clean, minimal design of the product bottles﹣they look so good in my bathroom! I’m excited to see what future products The HygieneLab creates!
The HygieneLab Face Wash

Key Ingredients | Niacinamide, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C)
Review | This face wash is a great combination of a creamy cleanser and a gel cleanser. It works really well to remove sunscreen and impurities from your face without leaving your skin feeling stripped. My skin felt very soothed and soft after using it, and we were both impressed.

The HygieneLab Face Moisturizer

Key Ingredients | Ceramide complex, squalane, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice
Review | This face moisturizer is very soothing and hydrating without feeling greasy. Although it’s unscented, it has a slight smoky scent when you first apply that quickly dissipates. It definitely makes your skin feel smooth and soft.
Would I Buy This Again? | Yes, both Jeremy and I would buy this face moisturizer again.

The HygieneLab Deodorant
Cost | $26 for 2.65 oz ($9.81 per ounce)
Key Ingredients | Saccharomyces Ferment, Sodium Bicarbonate, allantoin
Review | This deodorant glides on super easily, which is not the case with most of the non-toxic deodorant that we have tested. That’s especially important for men who don’t shave their underarms (no tugging of arm hair). This deodorant does a great job at keeping odor at bay. The overall scent is really nice, but it does contain patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) oil. You definitely get a slight patchouli undertone, and if you’re not a fan of this oil, you may not love this deodorant. All-in-all, it worked well and has a pleasant masculine scent.

The HygieneLab Body Lotion

Review | This body lotion has a medium consistency and hydrates skin really well. It does not leave any greasy residue. Although it’s unscented, it has a slight smoky scent when you first apply that quickly dissipates. All-in-all, this is a really nice body lotion that works well to moisturize your skin.
Would I Buy This Again? | Yes, Jeremy and I would buy this body lotion again.

The HygieneLab Shampoo

Key Ingredients | Panthenol, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice
Review | Jeremy and I were both really impressed by the shampoo. It lathers beautifully with a silky, hydrating formula and distributes easily through wet hair. The scent is a pleasant lavender-forward aroma, and hair feels clean and bouncy after use. There were no negatives about this shampoo.

The HygieneLab Conditioner

Key Ingredients | Astrocaryum Murumuru Seed Butter, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil, Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil
Review | Although the shampoo is excellent, the conditioner could use some tweaks to the formula. It doesn’t give my hair (or Jeremy’s) the desired silky and soft feeling. It also doesn’t distribute easily through your hair. I have noticed that the conditioner is no longer available on Amazon and it is sold out on their website, so I’m wondering if they are reformulating this product?

Is the HygieneLab Worth It?
Easy Swaps– The HygieneLab has basic non-toxic swaps for men’s skincare and haircare products. You can easily switch from conventional men’s grooming products to The HygieneLab products, and they are just as effective, but without harmful ingredients.
Reasonable Pricing– Per ounce, The HygieneLab face cleanser is more affordable than Caldera + Lab face cleanser. The prices per ounce are slightly higher than Jack Henry, but The HygieneLab uses essential oils and Jack Henry uses synthetic fragrance. The price per ounce is similar to some of the Jackfir products.
No Harmful Ingredients– With the exception of the hair gel, all of the ingredients are non-toxic and don;’t contain endocrine disruptors, formaldehyde releasers and ethoxylated ingredients.
Transparency– The HygieneLab discloses all of their ingredients and will share lab testing if you ask.
Effectiveness– The HygieneLab products are very effective and work well for basic skincare and hair care needs.
Final Thoughts
After investigating all of the ingredients and testing the products myself, I would highly recommend The HygieneLab products to men looking for non-toxic skincare and hair care.
